Men capable of bearing responsibility

You have probably been told to dream big.

You have probably been told to follow your passion.

But somewhere along the way, you started realizing something:

There is an enormous difference between being a good young man and being a capable man.

The Argument

Young men want to build, lead, understand money, communicate, sell, negotiate, invest, use technology, manage people, and create.

Yet many can spend sixteen years in school without learning how to sell.

Graduate without understanding a balance sheet.

Spend years online without learning how to build anything.

Know enormous amounts about the problems in the world without becoming capable of solving one.

Christians are often presented with a false choice.

Be serious about your faith and remain suspicious of ambition.

Or become ambitious and slowly allow achievement to become your religion.

We reject the choice.

Ambition must not be destroyed.
It must be ordered.

The important question is what kind of man possesses them.

Character without competence leaves a man unable to act on many of his convictions.

Competence without character can make him dangerous.

The world needs men who possess both.

We are building a fellowship of men committed to becoming useful.

We are not interested in producing men obsessed with looking successful.

We want men upon whom others can depend.

We intend to know one another before the titles.

Before the exits.

Before the funds.

Before the companies.

Before anyone important knows our names.

We are not building an audience.

We are forming men.

We are not preparing men merely to succeed in the world as it exists. We are preparing them to accept responsibility for what the world becomes.

Become capable.
Assume responsibility.
Build what is good.
